At the SK Telecom Open (South Korea) last weekend,
Michelle Wie has become the first female golfer to make the cut at an
international men’s tournament since Babe Zaharias in 1945. The 16 year old
sensation Michelle Wie, who joined the Omega family of ambassadors in February
2006, succeeded against the men at the Sky 72 Golf Club by firing a superb
three-under-par 69 in the second round of the SK Telecom Open on Friday. It is
her first appearance in Korea as a professional golfer.
Michelle Wie became the youngest player ever to qualify
for a USPGA amateur championship, the USPGA Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. By the age of 11, Michelle had won nearly all the junior events she had entered. In 2002, Michelle was the youngest semi-finalist ever in a USPGA amateur championship. The following year, she became the youngest ever to win the US Women’s Amateur Public Links. Michelle turned professional in October 2005, just before celebrating her 16th birthday. Michelle is ranked 2nd in women’s world golf.
Omega is proud to have her in its Omega family. With her talent and dedication to performance, Michelle Wie has a promising future ahead of her. She is a perfect example of the new generation of golfers, combining feminine grace with power and technique. Michelle Wie contributes many of Omega’s values: achievement, precision and reliability. Omega shares her happiness and wishes her all the best for the next tournaments.
